Live Immediately

The whole future lies in uncertainty: live immediately

Seneca

We all crave consistency and routine in our lives.  There is a lot of comfort in knowing what’s coming. This starts when were babies and our parents had feeding schedules and sleep schedules all lined up for us.  Just ask any new parent what happens when their child’s sleep schedule gets disrupted.

Actually, just ask anyone what happens when their feeding or sleep schedules get disrupted!

Being that we are wired that way.  How do we deal with the uncertainty that is inevitable in our lives?

Embrace the chaos

We typically have two options during uncertainty; bury our head and deny it or embrace the chaos.  We can step back and see the countless opportunities that uncertainty brings.

It may be a much needed chance to unplug.

It may be a chance to cross train and learn new skills at your job.

It may be a chance catch to connect

How often had you griped about the way things were in your life or your job?  Use this time of uncertainty as a chance to get a new perspective.  This is a golden opportunity to stretch yourself.

The Good Ole Days..

It is very easy to take comfort in the past.  Uncertain times scare us because what we used to know may be changed forever.  Nostalgia is fine, but uncertainty presents us the chance to experience life with a new normal.

That new normal may feel odd for a while, but you quickly adapt.  Like getting a cast on a broken bone.  The first few weeks all you can focus on is the cast, but after a while you don’t notice it.

We are resilient creatures.

The Seasons are long…

There is an old saying, “The seasons are long, but the years are short.” In the middle of uncertainty it seems like forever, but time moves forward.  You will soon be reflecting on these times, telling stories and will have moved one. You may even miss “those days”.

We Can’t Go Back..

Uncertainty brings a fair amount of angst because there is always the worry that things will not go back to the way they were.  This may be true, maybe we can’t go back, but we can always move forward.  Sometimes that is where life’s riches rewards lie, in front of us.

Just Breathe

Uncertainty is not an excuse to panic.

Uncertainty is opportunity.

Just breath, slow down and look for the opportunity.  Make that your focus and watch the anxiety fade.

Live Immediately.
